Dry season

Roughly December to April: sunny, windy along the Papagayo coast, and busiest with visitors. The dry forest turns brown and some rivers drop.

Green season

Roughly May to November, usually with sunny mornings and afternoon rain. Landscapes turn green, and September and October are typically the wettest months.

What it means for planning

  • Book stays early for Christmas, New Year and Easter week.
  • In the rainy season, plan inland trips for mornings.
  • Gravel roads can be harder after heavy rain; consider a 4x4.
